Boost Your Health with This Creamy Anti-Inflammatory Smoothie

I have been making this smoothie for over a year now, and it never disappoints! It’s creamy, just the right amount of sweet, and very satisfying. Every single one of my kids loves this smoothie which makes my life as mom so much easier. I love making it as a snack or serving it as a side dish with a meal.

The best part about this smoothie is that it tastes amazing….of course! But, the next best part is that it’s loaded full of anti-inflammatory ingredients that can reduce chronic inflammation in your body.

What is Chronic Inflammation?

Chronic inflammation is slow, long-term inflammation inside the body that lasts for long periods of time (several months to years). It can arise from exposures to irritants that are difficult for the body to expel, autoimmune disorders, defects in cells responsible for reducing inflammation and increased production of free radicals. Chronic inflammation leads to an increased risk for developing chronic diseases and is often accompanied by body pain, mood disorders, gastrointestinal complications, weight gain/loss and frequent infections.

How Can We Reduce Chronic Inflammation?

Chronic inflammation can be problematic. But there is good news! We have tools within our control for reducing it. With small changes to our diet and lifestyle, we can reduce inflammation in our bodies. When it comes to dietary approaches to prevent and reduce inflammation it’s about cutting back on some foods and adding other foods in. Reducing intake of foods high in saturated fats, trans fats and refined carbohydrates will help reduce inflammation in our body. Adding fruits, vegetables, whole grains, curcumins, beans and nuts into our diet also helps reduce and prevent inflammation in our body.

Creamy, Anti-Inflammatory, Blueberry Smoothie:

If you are looking for a great place to start with reducing inflammation in your body, this Creamy, Anti-Inflammatory Blueberry Smoothie is your ticket! It combines several foods that have been associated with reducing inflammation and improving all aspects of your health.

  1. Avocados: Avocados are rich in monounsaturated fats, particularly oleic acid, which has been shown to reduce inflammation. They are also what gives this smoothie its creamy texture. It may sound strange to add an avocado to a smoothie, but trust me, it’s delicious!!
  2. Blueberries: Blueberries are high in antioxidants, such as vitamin C and anthocyanins, which help combat oxidative stress and inflammation. They give this smoothie its beautiful purple color. I like using frozen blueberries to make it nice and cold.
  3. Green Apples: Green apples, like other fruits, contain antioxidants and fiber that can help reduce inflammation. I make this smoothie both with and without the green apple and either way it is amazing! For a sweeter flavor, omit it or choose a less tart apple (like gala or honey crisp). For a slightly tart kick, leave that bad boy in there.
  4. Unsweetened Soy Milk: Soy milk is a plant-based beverage rich in isoflavones, which have been studied for their potential anti-inflammatory effects. While more research is needed, some studies suggest that soy isoflavones may help reduce inflammation. I also love the flavor unsweetened soy milk adds to this smoothie. Its pairs perfectly with the other ingredients. You can use another milk if you prefer however.
  5. Bananas: Bananas are a good source of vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C and potassium. While they may not be as potent in anti-inflammatory effects as some other fruits, they can still contribute to an overall healthy diet. They also add a natural sweetness to this smoothie, making it extra delicious. For an extra sweet smoothie, choose a more ripe banana.

  1. Add the banana, blueberries, avocado (skin and pit removed), and green apple (cored and chopped) to a blender.
  2. Pour in the soy milk and blend everything until smooth and creamy. If you prefer a thinner consistency, you can add more soy milk.
  3. Pour into a glass and enjoy the creamy goodness!
